Did you know that a rooftop solar system comprises of more than 10 parts?

ACDB

ACDB is connected between the solar inverter and the home loads. It protects your appliances from power surges.

DC and AC cables

DC cables will connect the solar panels to the inverter. AC cables will connect the inverter all the way to the utility meter placed on the ground floor. Top brands for DC and AC cables are Polycab, Havells, etc.

DCDB

DCDB is connected between the solar panel and the inverter. It protects the inverter and the panels from high voltages and short circuits.

Earth Pits

Residential systems are recommended to have at least three earthing pits where all components will be properly grounded. Three earthing pits are required for: AC side, DC side and lighting arrestor. Grounding must be done as per IS 3043-2018 and the earth resistance should always less than 5 ohms.

Lightning Arrestor

Lightning arrestor to protect the system from lightning strikes. These could be of copper and should be properly grounded. Lightning arrestor should be placed at a point where it is higher than the highest point of solar panel.

Net Meter

Net meter is the new bi-directional meter that will replace your existing meter from the electricity utility. This will measure the import and export of electricity into your building. This has to be usually bought from the electricity utility.

Solar Inverter

Solar inverter converts the DC power into AC power, which is the form of power that can be used in our homes. Solar inverters can be on-grid, off-grid or hybrid depending on the type of configurations you have opted for.

Solar Meter

Solar meter measures the total generation of electricity from your solar plant. This meter can give you the exact units of generation and is generally more reliable than the data you get on your monitoring app as the app is dependent on network or WIFI connectivity.

Solar Panels

Solar panels converts sunlight into electricity with photovoltaic (PV) effect. There are three types of solar panels available commonly: Polycrystalline panels, Monoperc panels and bifacial panels. Top solar panel manufactures in India: Vikram, Adani, Waree, Tata, Axitec, Goldi, Saatvik, Renewsys

Solar Structure

Structures are usually made of Hot Dipped Galvanised Iron (HDGI) which is the best option for a long lasting rustproof structure. Other commonly used material include pre-galvanised iron (pre-GI), galvalume, etc. Aluminium structures are used to put solar panels on tin-sheet shed structures. There are four types of solar structures: Low rise, mid rise and high rise structures.
